Data Capture
Using multiple versatile processes in combination, ORDS extracts data into
digital archives. Such operations can be applied to existing paper or electronic
archives, and also applied to novel capture solutions. We use all of the following:
OCR -
Optical Character Recognition to capture machine printed text from scanned paper
and electronic documents
ICR - Intelligent Character Recognition to translate hand-printed
text into editable data from scanned documents
OMR - Optical Mark Recognition to interpret scanned documents
for ticks, crosses and marks
Barcode - Barcode reading to manage documents and transmit
data
Web - Customised web forms, accessible from the internet and
or intranet, allow instant storage and retrieval of data
Key from screen - Data entry clerks extract information that
cannot be digitally captured or verified
Data Mining - to access and analyse existing databases and
other software applications
Key from page - the simplest data capture methodology uses
data entry clerks to enter data straight from paper records, using either verbatim
entry or coding frames.
